Kanetsugu Naoe, a senior vassal of Kagekatsu Uesugi who supported Mitsunari Ishida (Western Army) and Yoshimitsu Mogami who supported Ieyasu Tokugawa (Eastern Army) engaged in a fierce battle at the Battle of Hasedo (1600), also known as Dewa no Sekigahara. Withstood the invasion of the Uesugi army, which had an army, and made a name for itself as a strong castle. There are still defensive facilities such as moats and enclosures everywhere on the mountain. The top of the mountain is a square with a stone monument and an arbour, and you can see Sugayama, where Naoe Kanetsugu set up his headquarters, as well as the ruins of Yamagata Castle (Kajo Park) and the city of Yamagata. In addition, local volunteers carry out planting activities and activities to protect indigenous plants, and it is popular as a familiar satoyama.
