Fukui Castle was built by Yuki Hideyasu, the second son of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first feudal lord of Fukui. During the Edo period, it prospered as the castle town of the Echizen Matsudaira family, the feudal lord of Fukui. Today, only stone walls and a moat remain. In spring, the moat is lined with cherry blossoms, and it is also known as a cherry blossom spot.
