Goten Onsen is located almost in the center of Yamagata Prefecture, and is one of the three most difficult places on the Mogami River, which was described in the book "Oku no Hosomichi" by Basho Matsuo, a haiku poet in the Edo period.
In 1977, a hot spring was discovered on the banks of the Mogami River, and Murayama City developed it as a new style of recreational hot spring in Japan.
Goten Onsen Kurhaus Goten is a facility that comprehensively combines physical strength measurement, training, communication, and hot spring recuperation, so that you can improve your health while having fun.
In 1986 (Showa 61), it was designated as a national health hot spring resort by the Environment Agency, and in 1990 (Heisei 2), it was certified as the nation's first health promotion facility (certified by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and with the Maru mark). Along with this, we have introduced a system where you can receive direct guidance from a health trainer in partnership with a spa therapy doctor. As a result, part of the usage fee is eligible for medical expenses deduction for income tax.
In 1991, the source was switched to Nango Onsen, which has abundant hot water, and a SPA pool (Western-style open-air bath) was opened.
In the surrounding area, there is a gymnasium, tennis courts, a heated swimming pool, and on the opposite shore of Mt. Kawashima, which is connected by a suspension bridge, there is a rural culture preservation tradition museum and a walking path where you can enjoy forest bathing. The road has opened, and there is a soba-making dojo called “Rural Densho-no-ie” where you can experience authentic handmade soba.
