Yasunami Waterwheel Village

The Yokkamura-ditch was built to irrigate the four villages of Akita, Yasunami, Saoka, and Kotsuga by creating a diversion weir (160m long and 11m wide) in Aso, a tributary of the Shimanto River. Previously, a number of water wheels were installed to pump water to Kattan cotton and paddy fields in the idyllic countryside from this ditch. Unfortunately, there are only a few waterwheels that pump water to the paddy fields, and the waterwheels installed for sightseeing are installed under the management of the local people. In addition, a park has been developed near the water wheel, and the hydrangea planted along the waterway adds color to the scenery.
