Bansei Peace Museum

The Army's last special attack base. Bansei Air Base, the Army's last special attack base, was built on Fukiagehama Beach from the summer of 1944 to the end of 1944. This airfield was only used for four months, but nearly 200 suicide bombers, including a 17-year-old boy pilot, took off from here into the skies of Okinawa with the slogan "For the sake of the motherland." This memorial hall was built on the site of the former Mansei Air Base to pray for everlasting peace. Inside the museum, there is a display of Japan's only Type 0 surface reconnaissance aircraft that was salvaged from the coast of Fukiagehama, and the final messages sent by members of the group who were about to die to their immediate family and loved ones, ``Pure Hearts.'' A large number of exhibits include the ``blood calligraphy'' that spelled out ``, personal belongings, and photographs of the deceased.
