Noune Hachiman Shrine

Hyuga Kagura was created in 1695 when the lord of the Maruoka domain, Kiyozumi Arima, came to Maruoka from Hyuga Province (Miyazaki Prefecture) via Itoigawa in Echigo Province (Niigata Prefecture), and brought Kagura dancers from Nobeoka with him. Its name comes from the fact that it was dedicated to festivals at various shrines around the castle. Kagura is dedicated at the shrine's autumn festival in September every year. It has been designated as a prefectural cultural property (intangible folklore).
