Owari Manzai New Year Dedication Performance

A traditional stage art considered to be the origin of Kamigata Manzai. Manzai is an ancient Japanese blessing art that visits each household in the New Year and prays for safety and prosperity for the household. A duo consisting of a tayu and a saizō visits each household, gives congratulatory speeches, dances, and engages in humorous dialogue. It celebrates the New Year, prays for safety and prosperity for the household, and brings laughter and good fortune. It started in the Yamato region, spread to Owari, Mikawa, and Echizen, and eventually spread throughout the country.
