Asama Onsen Torch Festival

The Asama Onsen Torch Festival is a traditional fire festival which is a part of the annual festival of the Misa Shrine Harumiya, which is held to pray for a good harvest and the safety of the people. The highlight of the festival is the heroic sight of people lighting torches of various sizes and parading through the hot spring town. There are about 50-60 torches, the largest of which is 3 meters in diameter. Participants carry flaming torches and shout chants as they proceed through the hot spring town. This sight is very impressive and captivates the spectators.
