Yanase Senbonyama

Yanase, Umaji Village, is known as one of the rainiest areas in the country. With its abundant rainfall and warm climate, it is home to Senbonyama, a mountain that is home to one of Japan's three most beautiful cedar forests and is home to 200-300-year-old Yanase cedars, designated as the prefectural tree of Kochi Prefecture. Senbonyama was used to build shrines and temples during the time of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and is known as a beautiful and historic mountain that was prized as a reserved mountain during the feudal era. There is also the Yanase Mountain Guide Club, which provides thorough guides on how to walk around Senbonyama, its history, and its nature. (Reservations required)
