Yoshida Castle

Many stone walls and earthen ramparts remain at the ruins of Yoshida Castle today. The Iron Turret, reconstructed atop the tall stone walls originally built by Ikeda Terumasa during the Azuchi–Momoyama period, stands proudly as a symbol of Yoshida Castle. During the Edo period, the area around Yoshida Castle flourished as the castle town of the Yoshida Domain, a post town on the Tokaido Road, and a port town supporting river transport on the Toyokawa River and boat travel for pilgrims to Ise. Even today, the region preserves much of its history and culture, including traditional hand-held fireworks.
