Akumi Kobe Shinmei Shrine

According to the shrine's legend, in 940, when the Taira no Masakado Rebellion was put down, Emperor Suzaku donated the Akumi Manor (also written as Yasukumi) Manor to Ise Grand Shrine as a sacred territory. It is said that the shrine's origins lie in prayer for the prosperity of the area at this time. The main hall, offering hall, worship hall, kagura hall, shrine storehouse, and temizuya (purification fountain), which were constructed in early modern and modern times, are registered as tangible cultural properties by the nation. The Oni Matsuri (Oni Festival), famous for the "teasing red demon and tengu" ritual, is held every year on February 11th.
