Yanagawa, the city of water, welcomes a gorgeous season come spring. The traditional culture continues to stay alive in Yanagawa. One custom that has been observed since ancient times is to wish for the healthy growth of daughters once born. Multicolored decorations with Hina dolls called sagemon, are hung in a huge celebration of this tradition. During the Hina Doll Sagemon Festival, held until April 3, shopping districts and buildings everywhere will be decorated with gorgeours ornaments for the festival. On March 17, there will even be an aquatic parade where adorable dolls will ride a boat down the river. Be sure to visit Yanagawa during this special season!
