Nogata Coal Memorial Museum

The Chikuho Coalfield produced approximately 800 million tons of coal for approximately 100 years from the early Meiji period to 1976, contributing to Japan's industrial development and modernization. The main building of the Nogata City Coal Memorial Hall (formerly the Nogata Chamber of the Chikuho Coal Mining Association) and the mock tunnels of the relief training center are part of the "Chikuho Coalfield Ruins" it became a nationally designated historic site based on the Cultural Properties Protection Act. The relief training center mock tunnel was built by the Chikuho Coal Mining Association in 1912 (Meiji 45), and the one that remains today was built in 1920 (Taisho 9). Until 1968, we trained many relief workers. The Nogata City Coal Memorial Museum exhibits the German-made Drager life preserver (oxygen breathing apparatus) that was used at the time.
