Sumiyoshi Park

Japan, 559-0002 1-1-13 Hamaguchi Higashi, Suminoe-ku, Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture

The oldest park in Osaka which opened in 1873 (Meiji 6). It was originally located on the grounds of Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, where a horse riding arena once stood. Shiokakemichi, which runs east to west through the center of the park, was the main approach to Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine. Additionally, Japan's oldest lighthouse, which was built at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine at the end of the Kamakura period, has been restored here. Even today, you can feel the connection to Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine at this park. There are many events, such as the Cherry Blossom Festival in the spring, the Sumiyoshi Festival (Nagoshi-Oharae Shinto Ritual) at the neighboring Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine in the summer, and also the first shrine visits on New Year's. It is bustling with people all year round.
