Yagi Castle Ruins

The Yagi Castle ruins are an amalgamation of four ruins. Firstly, there is the Yagi Castle ruins with its high stone walls built during the Toyotomi period. Secondly, there is the Yagi Tsuchi Castle, located to the northeast and said to represent the territorial boundaries of the Northern and Southern Courts period. Thirdly, there is the remains of the Tonoyashiki residence, said to be the site of the Yagi clan's Kamakura period residence. Fourthly, there is the Akabuchi ruins, named after Akabuchi Shrine, the clan deity of the Yagi clan. These four ruins mark the rise and fall of the Yagi clan over a period of about 400 years, from the Kamakura period to the Toyotomi period. The castle was built on the mountaintop at an altitude of 325m and stretches for about 300m, and the Honmaru and Ninomaru are very important ruins with stone walls surrounding them that stretch for a total of about 100m. On March 6, 1997, it was designated as a national cultural property.
