Tanjodo

It is one of the five Safuri temples. After climbing 40 stone steps, you will find a statue of Kobo Daishi enshrined as the principal image. The temple is located on a terrace within the grounds of Shohoin Temple. According to temple legend, Senzobo, one of the nine temples on a mountain in Nyoiji Temple, was a temple of worship, but due to the anti-Buddhist movement during the Meiji Restoration, Senzobo was abandoned. A temple was later built within the grounds of Shohoin Temple and the statue of Kobo Daishi was moved there. The origin of the Tanjodo Hall is said to be related to the origins of Zentsuji Temple, the 75th temple in the Shikoku Pilgrimage.
