Shoboji Temple – Gifu Great Buddha

Counted among Japan’s three great Buddha statues, the Gifu Great Buddha sits quietly about a 10-minute walk from Sanroku Station, the ropeway’s base station. Known for having the kindest and most serene expression of the three, this statue draws many visitors who take a seat in front of it to pause and reflect—or even hold a quiet conversation. Standing 13.63 meters tall and gleaming in gold, the magnificent Buddha is well worth a visit.
