Tamagawa Cave Kannon

There are various theories, but it is said that Tamagawa Kannon began when an eleven-faced Kannon was caught in a fisherman's net and enshrined here long ago. This Kannon statue is in the Tang Dynasty style and is said to have been made by the great monk Taicho. It was previously located in a natural cave, but after a collapse in 1989, it was moved to its current location in 1994 for safety reasons. Passing through the torii gate on the seashore, you will find the main hall inside an artificial concrete tunnel, creating a mysterious atmosphere. At the end of December 2015, the local people's group "Kamimisaki District Improvement Association" installed Echizen ware lanterns inside, creating an even more fantastical space.
