Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens

Mount Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens, which opened in 1937, boasts an area of ​​approximately 60 hectares and is packed with so many attractions, including a zoo, botanical garden, amusement park, and Mount Higashiyama Sky Tower, that it is impossible to see everything in one day. The zoo is home to approximately 450 species of animals, including Asian elephants, koalas, red pandas, and western gorillas. The botanical garden displays approximately 7,000 types of plants in a natural landscape, allowing visitors to enjoy seasonal scenery such as cherry blossoms in spring and autumn leaves. Additionally, the Greenhouse Front Building, a nationally designated important cultural property known as the greatest crystal palace in the Orient, displays tropical and subtropical plants all year round.
