Kyuya Fukata haiku monument

I respect the castle, I respect the old castle even more. Kyuya Fukaya (1903-1971) was a writer born in Daishoji-cho (present-day Kaga City), Ishikawa Prefecture. He went on to Daiichi High School from the old Fukui Junior High School (currently Fukui Prefectural Fujishima High School), where he met Tatsuo Hori and Jun Takami in the literature club, and became familiar with mountains as a member of the mountaineering club. He was especially active in writing about mountains, and his book ``Japan's 100 Famous Mountains,'' published in 1960, was highly praised and won the Yomiuri Literature Prize. Kyuya has a long-term relationship with Maruoka Town as a lecturer at Maruoka Adult University, and in June 1995, the Maruoka Gotoku Association erected a haiku monument to Kyuya in the front garden of the Maruoka Community Center to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Maruoka Adult University. The inscription is engraved with a haiku that he wrote at an adult university in May 1970.
