Near the Imperial Palace: Enjoy Tokyo’s Upscale Nightlife in Marunouchi

Marunouchi Tokyo

The Marunouchi area in Tokyo is a historic district located just outside Tokyo Station's Marunouchi Exits, on the east side of the Imperial Palace.

While the neighborhood bustles by day with its elegant boutiques, it is also an ideal destination for a night out, offering a wide array of upscale restaurants and bars that stay open late. Best of all, with Tokyo Station just steps away, you can relax and enjoy your evening without worrying about missing the last train.

In this article, we highlight a few spots perfect for experiencing the magic of Marunouchi at night, along with TOKYO AfterDark in Marunouchi—a series of nighttime events and activities running through August 14, 2026.

Use these recommendations as your gateway to exploring the area and discovering your own favorite establishments.

Marunouchi Brick Square: Terrace Seating Amid Greenery

Marunouchi Brick Square

Located right next to the historic Mitsubishi Ichigokan Museum, Tokyo, Marunouchi Brick Square is a refined urban oasis.

Marunouchi Brick Square

The courtyard boasts an array of charming restaurants, bars, and shops. Its biggest draw, however, is the opportunity to sit out on the terrace, catch a gentle evening breeze, and enjoy a conversation with a drink in hand.

Marunouchi Marugo

A fantastic option here is MARUGO MARUNOUCHI, a stylish wine bistro located right opposite the art museum's entrance. The establishment features outdoor seating and an impressive wine selection curated to accompany their French cuisine.

Enjoying some quality time at Marunouchi Brick Square offers the ideal reset—just steps from the bustling city center, yet remarkably tranquil and refined.

(marunouchi) HOUSE: Dining with Iconic Views of Tokyo Station

(marunouchi) HOUSE

Another must-visit location is (marunouchi) HOUSE, a collection of restaurants and bars on the seventh floor of the Shin-Marunouchi Building. The absolute highlight of this space is its spectacular rooftop terrace, which offers panoramic views of Tokyo Station to the east and the Imperial Palace to the west.

If you’re looking for a bite to eat, check out Sushi & Bar Fujiro for excellent sushi, or MOHEJI, a restaurant specializing in Tsukishima-style monjayaki and okonomiyaki.

For Western options, RIGOLETTO WINE AND BAR serves fantastic pizza and pasta dishes. If you are just looking for drinks, you can grab a cocktail at New Milk or the cozy bar Raimu Raito (Lime Light).

(marunouchi) HOUSE

Best of all, you can take your food and drinks from any establishment out onto the terrace. (*Please note that outside food and drinks are not allowed on the terrace.)

It is the perfect spot to feel the evening breeze while taking in views of Tokyo Station, which glows brilliantly against the backdrop of the city's surrounding skyscrapers.

The Marunouchi Bldg.: Breathtaking Views and Cozy Dining

Marunouchi Tokyo

For an even closer look at Tokyo Station from an incredible vantage point, head to the free observation deck on the 5th floor of the Marunouchi Bldg.

Complete with public benches and a monument that makes a perfect photo spot, this deck lets you experience the magic of the district first-hand through its breathtaking scenery.

Marunouchi Building

The fifth and sixth floors of the building are home to restaurants and cafes ideal for a relaxing break or an evening drink with friends. While undeniably classy, these spots are very approachable and cozy, leaving you wondering why you hadn't discovered Marunouchi sooner.

Boutique Shopping on Marunouchi-Nakadori Street

Marunouchi Nakadori

While Marunouchi is well worth a visit for the dining alone, a perfect afternoon or evening begins by exploring the area's many stylish boutiques, galleries, and art museums.

At the heart of the experience is Marunouchi-Nakadori Street, a vibrant avenue connecting the Marunouchi and Otemachi districts to the Yurakucho Station area.

Lined with sophisticated shops, this scenic, tree-lined street is a thrilling place to hunt for unique treasures. Featuring dining establishments with open-air terrace seating, Nakadori has become the iconic daytime face of Marunouchi.

TRADMAN'S TOKYO Bonsai

If we had to pick just one standout spot, it would be TRADMAN'S TOKYO - MARUNOUCHI BONSAI STORE, a boutique specializing in bonsai that opened here in 2023.

TRADMAN'S TOKYO Bonsai

The presence of a bonsai store here is deeply rooted in history. During the Edo period (1603-1868), when the Imperial Palace was Edo Castle, high-ranking samurai lived in the Marunouchi area.

The shogun’s family and powerful lords treasured bonsai, often gifting these precious trees to allies as a sign of appreciation. This local tradition ended in 1923 when the Great Kanto Earthquake forced bonsai artisans to relocate.

Because bonsai cannot stay indoors for long, the inventory at TRADMAN'S TOKYO Marunouchi rotates every week. The store functions primarily as a living showroom, allowing visitors to view these rare trees up close.

TRADMAN'S Bonsai

Please note that strict quarantine and export regulations apply to live plants, so it may be difficult to bring a bonsai home.

However, beyond live trees such as pines and maples, the shop offers apparel inspired by Japanese art, as well as premium care tools like specialized scissors and containers.

Marunouchi-Nakadori Street is brimming with captivating shops, so feel free to follow your curiosity and explore whatever catches your eye.

TOKYO AfterDark in Marunouchi: Special Events

TOKYO After Dark in Marunouchi

Beyond its year-round dining and shopping, Marunouchi hosts vibrant, limited-time events that bring a festive atmosphere to the streets.

A prime example is the TOKYO AfterDark in Marunouchi summer campaign, running from July 1 until August 14, 2026. One of its main highlights is the Night Hopping Ticket (*limited stock)—a set of three tickets sold for just 1,500 yen, tax included (approximately 9 USD).

This ticket allows you to select three establishments from 35 participating venues to enjoy a special drink and snack set. You can use all three tickets on the same evening or split them over multiple days.

The ticket offers exceptional value, with each set including a light snack and a beverage (with non-alcoholic options available at select locations). As a charming bonus, the ticket comes attached to a traditional paper lantern that you can keep as a memento of your evening.

The campaign also features live DJ events at (marunouchi) HOUSE on the 7th floor of the Shin-Marunouchi Bldg., as well as historical walking tours with English guidance that offer insight into how Marunouchi transformed into the sophisticated hub it is today.

TOKYO After Dark in Marunouchi

The Night Hopping Ticket can be purchased at physical stores such as Marunouchi Happ. Stand & Gallery, or at special pop-up locations.

For details, please check the official TOKYO AfterDark in Marunouchi website.

From July 24 through August 23, the district is hosting the Marunouchi Summer Fest 2026. Throughout the festival, 14 floral arches featuring roses, lilies, and vibrant seasonal blooms will transform Marunouchi-Nakadori Street into a refreshing “flower corridor.”

Nearby dining spots, including Marunouchi Happ. Stand & Gallery, are offering exclusive summer menus and limited-edition beverages, making it an ideal time to visit.

If you are visiting during the year-end holiday season, the district completely reinvents itself in winter, when the spectacular Marunouchi Illumination lights up the streets as the area's main attraction.
