Journeys along
Japan's Pacific Coast
Introduction
Enjoying the Ocean's Bounty From the Islands of Japan
Surrounded by the sea, Japan is famous for fresh seafood dishes like sushi and sashimi. In particular, the costal seas of Aomori, Iwate, and Miyagi are said to be one of the "three major fishing grounds," with one of the highest catches anywhere on the globe.
Choshi Fishing Port, which yields one of the highest annual fishing hauls in Japan, and Chikura Fishing Port, where many sea delicacies such as Japanese spiny lobster and abalone are caught, are both found in Chiba Prefecture, home to Narita Airport the air gateway to Japan. Depending on the area, you can enjoy seafood in different categories and flavors.
