Gifu prefecture is a landlocked area found in the Chubu region on Honshu and is where you will find Shirakawa-go, the UNESCO World Heritage recognized traditional mountain villages, Hida Takayama, a historic town, and Takayama, which is a great ski destination. There are many historical areas throughout Gifu, and numerous festivals held here all year long as well.
