Izu Granpal Park's Illumination Event

Izu Granpal Park is an amusement park located in Ito City, Shizuoka. It features a 3D maze, zip lines, walk-on-water balls, a dog park, and gentle rides suitable for young children.

The park's close proximity to Ito's hot springs, Atami Onsen, and the famous Izu Shaboten Zoo, known for its capybara, makes it a popular destination for families and couples.

The illumination at Izu Granpal Park, known as Izu Kogen Grand Illumination, or Granillumi, is recognized as Japan's first experiential illumination.

Scheduled from November 2025 to January 2025, until August 31, 2026 the Izu Kogen Grand Illumination – 11th Anniversary will showcase Japan's first hands-on illumination event, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in a magical world of light.

1. Dragon Adventure

A towering 10 m–high, 100 m–long illuminated dragon sweeps across a 160 m × 30 m backdrop that shimmers like a cloud-sea at dusk.

Animated LED scales, synchronized motion effects, and layered projection mapping make the creature seem to breathe and glide above visitors, while pulsing bass and ethereal choral tones heighten the sense of an ancient myth come to life.

2. Bubble Fantasy Show

Thousands of iridescent soap bubbles drift through the air in time with a specially composed score, catching laser beams and colored lights to create miniature, floating galaxies. Children chase the bubbles while fog machines and soft spotlights turn the plaza into a translucent dreamscape that sparkles with each pop.

3. Diamond Whale

This 15 m–wide, semi-transparent whale glows with slowly shifting aurora hues, its surface studded with tiny LEDs that ripple like bioluminescence. Visitors can walk beneath or beside the sculpture to feel dwarfed by its scale; ambient ocean sounds and subtle light pulses simulate a gentle underwater lullaby.

4. Swinging and Shining Dream Swing

A whimsical swing set framed by giant illuminated butterfly wings, where motion triggers cascades of twinkling lights and soft wind effects. As you sway, sensors cue harmonized chimes and color changes, turning each ride into a brief, personal flight through a sparkling storybook sky.

A long neon archway themed to the sea invites guests to stroll beneath waves of light and color. Interactive floor sensors respond to footsteps with glowing ripple effects, while overhead projections occasionally scatter “schools” of light, making pedestrians feel as if they’re walking across a luminescent tide.

5. Lagoon (Dragon Palace)

At around 20:00 each night, put on wireless headphones for a personal audio-visual performance: a curated soundtrack syncs precisely with a tailored light sequence directly in front of you. Access to Izu Granpal Park

The nearest station to Izu Granpal Park is Izu Kogen Station.

If you are accessing by train from the Tokyo area, transfer at JR Ito Station to the Izu Kyuko Line and get off at Izu Kogen Station. Since Izu Granpal Park is located a distance from the nearest station, it is recommended to use a taxi or bus to get there.

For those driving, please use the Tomei Expressway and take the Izu Chuo Road. If you are coming from Tokyo, it takes about one and a half hours to arrive.

Izu Granpal Park has a parking lot; however, please be aware that it can become full during busy times. Especially during the illumination period, both the parking lot and surrounding roads are expected to be congested, so it’s wise to plan accordingly and allow extra time for your journey.
