Intro
Kumamoto prefecture is centrally located in southwestern Kyushu and is known for its numerous active volcanoes, hot spring areas, and for Kumamoto Castle, one of the largest and most complete Japanese castles in existence.
Despite suffering two large earthquakes in 2016, which caused some spots in Kumamoto city and the Aso area to close, there are still numerous natural and historical places open to the public here including the Kumamoto Prefectural Ancient Burial Mound Museum, Suizenji Jojuen, a 400 year old garden, and more.
