Latest update :

From October 11, 2022, a valid vaccination certificate or a negative pre-departure COVID-19 test are the only requirements for entering Japan for tourism purposes.

According to the official announcement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on-arrival testing, self-quarantine measures, and restrictions on the use of public transport will no longer be required.

Visitors entering Japan must present a valid vaccination certificate of three doses from the World Health Organisation approved list of COVID-19 vaccines. Alternatively, they may provide a valid negative test result of a pre-departure COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours before arrival.

The measures will be applied from midnight on October 11, 2022. Visitors to Japan will no longer need to book a tour through a travel agency. Daily caps on international arrivals and travel visa requirements have also been lifted.
