Chichibu: An Exciting Day Trip Destination West of Tokyo

The city of Chichibu, located west of Tokyo, is known for its beautiful shrines such as Chichibu Shrine and Mitsumine Shrine, and historical temples. The spectacular Chichiby Night Festival held in December, Hitsujiyama Hill covered in pink moss phlox in May, and fall foliage are seasonal highlights that attract many visitors to this area.

Chichibu is also famous for its cuisine, especially foods made by fermentation such as miso paste, cheese, Shakushina pickles (*1), oname (a mixture of fermented beans and wheat malt), as well as delicious sake, wine, and whisky. The nostalgic Banba-dori Street, which leads to Chichibu Shrine, is lined with dining facilities and shops that offer these exquisite treats.

Chichibu Premium Dining: Event Highlights

Chichibu Premium Dining is a food-themed event held October 27 - 29 in Chichibu. The main venue is the popular shopping street Banba-dori, which will become a pedestrian promenade for three days.

For the Outdoor Hopping event, shops and restaurants will install seats outside and offer food items that can be enjoyed for about 500 yen to 1,000 yen. Piping hot taiyaki (fish-shaped cakes filled with sweet adzuki paste), matcha tiramisu desserts, potato delights topped with miso paste, grilled meat dishes, and many other treats await!

Famous local dining establishments such as Mahollo Bar, Chichibu's first craft beer specialty bar, and Paris Shokudo, renowned for its nostalgic atmosphere, will be taking part in the Chichibu Outdoor Hopping event.

Delicious whisky, craft beer, and the high-quality Japanese sake that Chichibu is famous for will, of course, also be on offer.

Held at the same time, the Premium Dinner offers visitors a chance to enjoy an exquisite dinner at one of the five best restaurants in Chichibu: Himidori, known for its theater-like live kitchen and cafe, Chichibu Shinsekai, which is famous for its delicious miso pork dishes, Sushi Kame, a popular local sushi restaurant whose history goes back three generations, Restaurant MARUJU, which has an adjacent hotel in a renovated traditional house, and cucina salve, which uses flavorful vegetables grown on their own farm.

Highly skilled chefs will prepare special dinner menus using local ingredients. You'll be enjoying the best of what Chichibu offers in terms of cuisine. This dinner menu can be enjoyed for around 10,000 yen; for an additional fee, you can also enjoy a pairing with alcoholic beverages.
