This tour takes you around the works of Otake Ohtake that are on display in Setouchi Prefecture during the Setouchi Triennale. After appreciating the works scattered around Naoshima, you will travel around Teshima Island, Megi Island, and Marugame on a chartered boat and enjoy the works. The artist has used a wide range of methods of expression, from three-dimensional works and oil paintings, to collages that paste together photographs and pictures, to sound performances. About the artist Otake Ohtake

Shinro Ohtake is a contemporary artist born in Tokyo in 1955, who has been based in Ehime, Uwajima since 1988 and is active internationally. Since his first solo exhibition at the end of 1982, he has held solo exhibitions almost every year not only in Japan but all over the world. Since the " Shinro Ohtake Exhibition" held at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo in 2022, which could be said to be the culmination of his work up to his 60s, he has continued to work energetically, and will be presenting new works at this year's special exhibition in Marugame.

This tour will start with the first stop, Naoshima, and then go to Teshima Island, Megi Island, and Marugame. There are three places on Naoshima(Benesse House Museum, Art House Project "Haisha", and Naoshima Public Bath "I ♥ Yu") where you can see artworks, each with a different theme. Of course, you will also visit the existing art facilities on Naoshima, such as the Chichu Art Museum, and the Naoshima New Art Museum, which opened this spring. The trip between "Needle Factory" on Megi Island and "Mekon" on Teshima Island takes several hours with regular ferry transfers, but it only takes 40 minutes by charter boat. You can also enjoy a comfortable boat trip. Also, we will travel from Megi Island to Marugame by charter boat, and the last stop will be the "Marugame City Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art", where the "Otake Ohtake Exhibition" is planned for this period. This tour will focus on appreciating the works of Otake Ohtake, but there are many more art sights to see in Setouchi. In Naoshima, we will visit art facilities such as the Chichu Art Museum. Over the two days, you will experience contemporary art at the "Art House Project" scattered throughout the village, the newly opened Naoshima Art Museum, and the Benesse House Museum. On the first day, you will stay overnight at Benesse House Park and spend the day watching ships cross the sea surrounded by art. In Teshima Island, after visiting the Teshima Island Art Museum and Teshima Island Yokoo House, you will also view works from the Seto Triennale, and on Megi Island, you will see representative works such as the "Meigaza". On the final day, we will visit the Genichiro Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art, where the Shinro Ohtake exhibition is currently being held. The museum was designed by one of Japan's leading architects, Yoshio Taniguchi, and the exhibition makes the most of the architectural space, creating a sense of unity with Ohtake 's work.
