Lake Suwa Festival Fireworks Display

The Lake Suwa Festival Fireworks Display is a large-scale fireworks display held on Lake Suwa in Suwa City, Nagano Prefecture, on August 15th every year, and is one of the two major fireworks events in Suwa City, along with the National New Fireworks Competition, which is held every year in early September. This event, which attracts approximately 500,000 spectators every year, sees the launch of approximately 40,000 fireworks, making it one of the largest fireworks displays in Japan.

Lake Suwa is relatively shallow, so 10 large firework launch pads have been set up on the lake to take advantage of this topography, and fireworks unique to Lake Suwa, such as water star mines and the spectacular "Great Niagara Fireworks," are launched. In addition, the artificial island "Hatsushima" in the center of the lake has been developed by the local government exclusively for launching 10-gou fireworks, and it is clear that this is a representative event of Suwa City, where the whole community comes together to have fun.

Lake Suwa Festival Fireworks Display Program Overview

Part 1: Fireworks Competition

Ten famous fireworks makers from inside and outside Nagano Prefecture will participate in the "10-gou ball rapid-fire competition" and "starmine competition." Each fireworks maker is a top-class craftsman who is active in competitions all over the country, and you can enjoy a competition where their skills and creativity shine.

Part 2: Large-scale fireworks display

It is centered around gorgeous and magnificent star mines, the most famous of which is the "Minakami Dai Star Mine Kiss of Fire." Fireworks are set off in a line from both sides of the lake to Hatsushima Island in the center, and finally, 10-size balls are launched in succession above Hatsushima Island. The hemispherical fireworks reflected on the lake surface are fantastic and spectacularly beautiful.

The climax of the event is the " Great Niagara Falls ," which stretches for about 2 kilometers. The fireworks cascading down like a waterfall light up the lake, and it is known as Japan's longest water Niagara. It is a spectacular sight that you should see at least once in your life. The entire program, from Part 1 to Part 2, lasts for about 2 hours, making it the fireworks festival that represents the Japanese summer.

We depart from Shinjuku by bus and pass through Yamanashi Prefecture, famous as the "Fruit Kingdom." Here, you can enjoy all-you-can-eat seasonal Kyoho grapes to your heart's content! Afterwards, we arrive at the venue of the Lake Suwa Fireworks Festival. At the venue, you can freely purchase food from the food stalls, and " group box seats " are available for viewing the fireworks.
