[National Museum of Art, Osaka] Completely underground art museum, rare in the world

The National Museum of Art, Osaka opened in 1977. It used to be the Expo 70 Museum of Art built for the 1970 Japan World's Fair, but due to aging facilities, it was relocated to Nakanoshima, Osaka in 2004 as a completely underground art museum.

The exterior, designed by architect Cesar Pelli to express the "vitality of bamboo," is a must-see as a piece of art. It is an unusual building in that the entire museum is underground. It has a collection of approximately 8,200 works, mainly contemporary art from Japan and abroad.

Osaka Nakanoshima Museum of Art opened in February 2022. It has a collection of approximately 6,000 works, mainly modern and contemporary art and design works. The building has a black cube-shaped exterior and an atrium structure from the first to fifth floors, with soft light pouring in from the ceiling.

There is also a museum shop full of original goods and a cafe/restaurant, transmitting creativity that moves people's hearts as a new symbol of Osaka.

Osaka Science Museum is a museum themed on "space and energy" where you can enjoy learning about space and science while experiencing it.
