Ozu City is located in the western part of Shikoku, in the region known as Nanyo, and is an area centered around the Ozu Basin, facing the Seto Inland Sea to the north and the Shikoku Mountains to the south. The clear Hijikawa River flows through the center of the city, and as its name suggests, the river curves like an elbow as it runs through the town, bringing many blessings to the city, including nature, history, culture, and local specialties. Remnants of the city's prosperity as a castle town around Ozu Castle during the Edo period still live on the banks of the Hijikawa River.

Introducing the creator Tanigawa Wood Crafts / Miki-cho, Kida-gun, Kagawa Prefecture

Tanigawa Wood Crafts was founded in Miki-cho, Kagawa Prefecture in 1955 as the Sushi Oke Manufacturing Company, and is now in its third generation. Masao Tanigawa, who trained at an oke shop, started his own business.

A tub is a knotted wooden container made by arranging strips of wood in a circle to create an outer periphery, tightening them with hoops (metal or bamboo rings), gluing them together, finishing them after drying, and inserting a bottom plate. The wood absorbed and released moisture, and it became popular throughout the country during the Muromachi period as a container that could be used for a long time while being repaired.

Masao mainly manufactured sushi okes, but the second generation, Masanori, produced a wide range of wooden products such as bathtubs and ohitsu, and the company changed its name in 2014.

With the advent of new materials such as plastic, wooden containers were replaced, and there are now only two manufacturers of Sanuki oke barrels in Kagawa Prefecture, which used to have more than 10 manufacturers.

Mr. Kiyoshi, the third generation CEO, overcame his family's opposition, quit his job at the company, and took over the family business in his 30s. In addition to traditional sushi okes made from fine-grained Yoshino cedar, we have developed microwaveable okes and ohitsu bento boxes, creating products that can be used in modern life and conveying the appeal of okes.
