Access to Izumigaya Crafts Inn "Waraku"

To get to Izumigaya Crafts Inn "Waraku", it is convenient to take a bus or taxi from Shizuoka Station on the JR Tokaido/Shinkansen. If you are coming by bus, take the Shizutetsu Justline Chubu National Highway Line bound for Fujieda Station from platform 7 at the north exit of JR TAKUMISHUKU Station, ride for about 30 minutes, get off at the bus stop "Togeppo Sunpu Takumi-shuku Iriguchi", and walk for about 5 minutes. If you are coming by taxi, it will take about 20 minutes (taxi fare is about 3,000 yen).

The "Waraku" room is surrounded by furniture and tools made by Shizuoka's traditional craftsmen and contemporary artisans.

Waraku, a craft inn quietly nestled in Satoyama, is a renovated traditional Japanese house that is over 100 years old, and offers eight rooms that make use of the large beams, earthen floors, and warmth of wood. Each room is furnished with furniture and tools made by artisans, including beautiful lamps made from Suruga bamboo senjiki work, small antiques, and tea-dyed fabrics. Located right next to the Izumigatani Crafts TAKUMISHUKU "Izumigaya Crafts Inn "Waraku" , "Sunpu no Kobo Takumi-yado" is one of the largest traditional craft experience facilities in Japan. It has six workshops where you can experience traditional crafts of Shizuoka, a gallery that handles crafts and folk arts from all over the country, and a cafe that makes extensive use of honey, a specialty of the Maruko Izumigatani area, on its menu.

At the three workshops, you can enjoy experiencing a variety of crafts that have been passed down in Shizuoka since the Imagawa and Tokugawa periods and are still treasured today, including Suruga Bamboo Sensuji Crafts, Japanese dyeing, woodworking, lacquerware, and pottery.

Izumigaya Crafts Inn "Waraku" was once a strategic point connecting Utsunoya and Abe River, and was the site of Marikoshuku shuku on the Tokaido .
