What is Shikoku Culinary Tourism?
Hello there!!
My name is Nikumoto Ryoma, lord of BBQ Castle in the Matsuno Domain.
Today, I would like to introduce a YouTube channel that will help you have a delicious trip to Shikoku!!
The large island of Shikoku is surrounded by two seas, the Seto Inland Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
There are mountains rich in nature, so there is an abundance of delicious ingredients.
You can enjoy dishes made with local ingredients in each region,
I would definitely encourage you to give it a try.
The YouTube channel "Shikoku Shokuyu"
The program was edited by Seike Masaki, the host of the program "Uwajima World Link" on the local radio station "FM Gaiya."
Mr. Seike is a former English teacher and speaks English very fluently.
The program also provides commentary in English, which makes it very easy for foreign tourists to understand.
The YouTube description section provides detailed information, so you can enjoy your trip to Shikoku to the fullest.
I hope you will find this useful.

Shikoku Culinary Tourism ① Uwajima Edition
Episode 1 focuses on Uwajima Castle and the local Uwajima food "Jakoten"
We will also introduce "Taimeshi" (sea bream rice).
In the second half of the program, we will board the JR Yodo Line and travel to Matsuno Domain.

Shikoku Culinary Tourism ② JR Yodo Line Journey Uwajima Station → Matsumaru Station
In Episode 2, we take the JR Yodo Line and travel from Uwajima Station to Matsumaru Station.
The second floor of Matsumaru Station is a hot spring, and they will show you how to enjoy it.
Right in front of Matsumaru Station is an inn called "BBQ Castle," and we decided to buy some delicious sake from a local brewery in preparation for that night's BBQ.

Shikoku Culinary Tourism③ Butter-grilled scallops and bonito ajillo
Episode 3 introduces dinner at BBQ Castle!!
We enjoy grilling scallops, which can only be found in southwestern Shikoku, over charcoal, and making seasonal bonito into ajillo.
Just looking at it makes me hungry.

Shikoku Culinary Tourism ④ Matsuno Town Specialty!! Venison BBQ!!
In Episode 4, we introduce a BBQ using venison, a specialty of Matsuno Town.
In our Matsuno domain, we are actively exterminating deer and wild boars to reduce damage to crops caused by harmful animals. (There are particularly many deer in Matsuno Town.)
Even though it is called "extermination," it is for human convenience and the animals are not at fault.
As part of our efforts to "cherish life," the culled deer are carefully butchered and used as a tourist resource.
In some countries, venison can have a strong smell, which some people dislike,
Matsuno clan venison is carefully processed, so it has no unpleasant odor, is rich in nutrients, and is delicious!!

Shikoku Culinary Tourism ⑤: Traditional Shikoku BBQ ~ Seared Bonito ~
In episode 5, we introduce the traditional BBQ of Kochi Prefecture in Shikoku, "Tataki Bonito."
Matsuno Town, where BBQ Castle is located, is located on the border with Kochi Prefecture, where you can get delicious bonito.
Delicious bonito is grilled using pesticide-free straw made in Matsuno Town.
When eaten with the condiments, it's so delicious that you won't be able to stop eating!!
We recommend eating it with the local sake "Nobushi."

Shikoku Culinary Tourism⑥ Traditional Japanese Breakfast
Episode 6 introduces traditional Japanese breakfasts.
1. Rice balls cooked in a kamaboko pot
Over the flames of the bonfire, we use a traditional Japanese cooking utensil called a "hagama" to cook rice, and then use delicious salt to make "onigiri" (rice balls).

2. Charcoal-grilled small sardines
You can enjoy Uwajima's specialty, Jakoten, grilled over charcoal!!
The fish in the Uwa Sea are so tasty that Uwajima's Jakoten is the best in the world!!

3. Miso soup with lots of ingredients
The miso soup of Matsuno Town is characterized by the use of a type of miso called "barley" miso. It is a slightly sweet miso soup with a gentle flavor and plenty of ingredients such as vegetables and tofu!

Shikoku Culinary Tourism ⑦ Samurai Training!!
Episode 7 introduces samurai training.
At BBQ Castle, choose your favorite kimono and sword and get ready to go!
We went to a beautiful forest called Nametoko Valley and practiced meditation and sword fighting near a waterfall.
After the training, we had a BBQ experience at the campsite.
While watching the flames of the bonfire, you can grill meat on a samurai sword-shaped skewer.
Baking taiyaki desserts...
It's an experience you'll never forget!!
