Enoshima Lanterns 2026: Summer Light-up Event Near Kamakura
Experience Enoshima Lanterns 2026 from August 1 to September 23. An easy day trip from Tokyo near Kamakura, enjoy magical summer night light-ups on the island.
Until September 23! Enoshima Lanterns 2026
Enoshima is bringing a magical glow to its sacred grounds and coastal gardens from August 1 to September 23, 2026.
The event pairs coastal evening breezes with a stunning Hikari no Emaki (Picture Scroll of Light) installation directed by the creative team at VELVETA DESIGN, plus immersive installations that celebrate local legends and island nature.
An Extended 54-Day Summer Celebration
To give visitors more time to experience the event, Enoshima Lanterns 2026 will extend its schedule by 10 days compared to previous years.
Running from the peak of summer through the Silver Week holidays in September, the extended period offers the perfect setting for a traditional evening cool-down stroll (yusuzumi) under a spectacular canopy of lights.
The Magical Hikari no Emaki Light Installation

The island-wide installation expands across Enoshima Shrine’s Zuishinmon Gate, up the illuminated stone steps, and all the way to the island’s summit at the Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden.

Zuishinmon Gate features intricate, newly updated Kiri-e (light-cut paper) projections including a dazzling Sea of Light, accompanied by immersive audio elements.

At Hetsumiya Shrine, handcrafted shell wind chimes line the path, swaying softly under gentle night lighting to create a soothing, melodic soundtrack.

At the Enoshima Samuel Cocking Garden, the towering Tenku no Akari (Sky Lights) large lanterns soar toward the night sky, casting vibrant, shifting colors in the ocean breeze.
Join the Moonlight Dream Sunset Tour
The event organizers recommend starting with a tour of the island's natural power spots and sunset locations before nightfall.
Visitors can start their late afternoon at the Enoshima Iwaya Caves to take in the energy of the sea caves, then walk up to Okutsumiya Shrine as dusk approaches.
Once darkness falls, you can take a break at the summit to admire the transparent glow of the Tenku no Akari lanterns before heading back down past the wind chimes of Hetsumiya and the shimmering light projections at Zuishinmon Gate.
