Washi is made by scoopingup liquid mixed with pulp using a frame called a kote. The liquid consists of water thickened with plant mucilage tospread the fibers evenly and ensure each sheet of washi is formed evenly.

▲The pulp, usually made from the bark of mitsumata organpi trees, is mixed with mucilage called neri to create this milky liquid forpapermaking.

▲The moisture is first removed, then the damp sheetis laid on a heated surface to dry.
Aftercreating multiple practice sheets, you’ll be invited to make your final sheet, which you can decorate with a provided selection of leaves.

Althoughsociety is increasingly reliant on digital media, paper remains essential todaily life.
