It has been announced that the anticipated film "Shin Ultraman" will be released in theaters on May 13, 2022. A promotional trailer featuring Ultraman shooting a Spacium Beam (*1) was also revealed with the announcement.
The producer-screenwriter Hideaki Anno is a film director well-known for his work on the "Evangelion" series. He is immensely popular both in Japan and overseas, with the box-office revenue for "Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time" exceeding 10 billion yen when it was released in theaters in 2021.
The duo's other half is Shinji Higuchi, director of "Shin Ultraman." He also directed the 2016 film "Shin Godzilla," which was written, edited, and co-directed by Anno.
"Shin Godzilla" captured public interest largely due to its impressive visuals and intricate story, a theoretical take on "what would happen if Godzilla showed up one day in modern society."
The promotional trailer for "Shin Ultraman" reveals a scene on an investigative report by the kaiju (monster) task force that classifies Ultraman the Giant Hero as a "giant humanoid creature." Viewers are anticipating that the film will have a realistic storyline grounded in modern society.
