Gaia Flow Shizuoka Distillery: A mecca for whisky in harmony with nature

Gaia Flow Shizuoka Distillery is located in Okushizu, the inner sanctum of Shizuoka, surrounded by abundant nature. Oku Okushizu is a nickname for the "Oku-Shizuoka area," an area rich in nature and traditional culture. Underground water flowing from the Southern Alps irrigates Okushizu, eventually transforming into the mighty Abe River and flowing into Suruga Bay. This distillery produces Japanese whiskey in a place nurtured by the bounty of nature. They use local Shizuoka ingredients to provide delicious, high-quality whiskey.

Whisky-making tours are also available.

We regularly hold tours where you can experience whiskey-making in a way that is unique to Shizuoka, including fermentation tanks made from cedar wood produced in Shizuoka City and pot stills that are distilled over a local wood fire. You can see the whiskey-making process in detail, and we will provide an easy-to-understand explanation of the manufacturing process of each unique whiskey. In the maturation warehouse, many barrels filled with whiskey are lined up high above the ceiling. After the tour, you can enjoy a tasting in the tasting room (for a fee). *Under Japanese law, people under the age of 20 are prohibited from drinking alcohol.

Gaia Flow Shizuoka Distillery has a barrel owner system where you can pre-order an entire barrel of the whiskey they produce. Using two stills with different heating methods and shapes, you can choose from whiskeys with completely different characteristics, barrels with different sizes and histories, and barley malt from different regions, and you can create a one-of-a-kind whiskey.
