As spring breathes life into Tokyo, the Chiyoda Ward prepares for its annual celebration of cherry blossoms with the much-anticipated Chiyoda Sakura Festival. Running from March 12 to April 23, this year's festival promises a vibrant display of over 700 meters of cherry blossoms, culminating in the enchanting Chidorigafuchi Night Cherry Blossom Illumination from March 28 to April 8.
In an effort to promote sustainability, festival organizers have introduced a new initiative: a portion of ticket sales will support the replanting of cherry trees, ensuring that future generations can enjoy this seasonal spectacle. The newly-launched Smart Tickets, available from March 12, allow visitors to bypass the usual long lines at the Chidorigafuchi Boating Center, providing a seamless experience while contributing to conservation efforts.
Festival Highlights
Night-time Illumination at Chidorigafuchi
From March 28 to April 8, the iconic cherry blossoms adorning the Imperial Palace grounds will be beautifully illuminated from sunset until 21:00 each evening. This enchanting display will feature eco-friendly LED lighting, creating a soft glow that enhances the blossoms' natural beauty.
Introduction of Smart Tickets
Visitors can now purchase Smart Tickets online starting from March 12. This innovative ticketing system allows for scheduled boat rides at the Chidorigafuchi while also donating a portion of the fare to the Chiyoda Ward Sakura Fund aimed at preserving the cherry blossom landscape.
A Variety of Events
Beyond cherry blossom viewing, the festival features engaging activities such as the real-life mystery game The Mystery Set by the Phantom Thief Blossom. The game invites participants to explore Jimbocho’s historic second-hand bookstores while solving themed mysteries, with exciting prizes for successful detectives.
Culinary and Cultural Offers: The Kanpai CHIYODA Ticket
Aiming to support local businesses while celebrating the cherry blossom season, the Kanpai CHIYODA Ticket returns! This bar-hopping ticket offers participants a unique experience, allowing them to enjoy discounts on Japanese sake and snacks at various establishments in the city. The ticket will be available for approximately 5,000 yen, providing eleven 500 yen vouchers that can be used at participating locations from mid-March through May. This initiative not only promotes local cuisine but also encourages the rediscovery of Chiyoda's vibrant culinary scene.
Rilakkuma Collaboration Merchandise
Festival-goers can also look forward to exclusive Rilakkuma-themed merchandise, available from March 12. Proceeds from sales will contribute to maintaining the cherry blossom scenery, merging enjoyment with purpose.
