Afternoon Kurashiki Tour: Bikan Historical Quarter

This is a half-day afternoon tour starting at a hotel near JR Okayama Station or Okayama Station, and traveling to Kurashiki by train. Upon arrival, we will take a taxi to the Kurashiki Historical Quarter, where we will stroll through the streets that retain the atmosphere of the Edo and Meiji periods, with white-walled storehouses, cobblestone streets, and canal-side scenery. The area is dotted with traditional craft shops, general stores, cafes, and art galleries, making it a place where you can discover new things as you walk around. Our guide will efficiently show you the highlights while weaving in the history of the town and the background of its merchant culture. The Ohara Museum of Art is closed on Mondays (open on national holidays) and has winter closures, so if this is difficult, we will suggest an alternative.

12:00 Meet at a hotel near JR Okayama Station or at JR Okayama Station.

12:10 JR Okayama Station → Travel by train

12:30 Arrive at JR Kurashiki Station → Travel by taxi

12:40 Kurashiki Historical Quarter (stroll) * Ohara Museum of Art: Closed on Mondays (open on national holidays) / There are temporary closures during the winter. Alternative plans can be suggested.

I'm Miki, born and raised in Kagawa, Japan where I developed a deep appreciation for both traditional culture and everyday local life. Before getting married, I worked as a junior high school science teacher, specializing in physics. Teaching young students helped me learn how to explain complex ideas clearly, patiently and in engaging way-skills that continue to support my work as a guide today. After marriage, I spent six years living in Germany. This experience had a profound impact on my life as a foreign resident, navigate cultural differences firsthand, and better understand the perspectives, expectations, and concerns of international visitors to Japan. It also strengthened my ability to communicate across cultures with empathy and flexibility.

I am a passionate dog lover, and animals-especially dogs-have always been an important part of my life. I believe that this affection reflects my warm and friendly personality, which I bring to every tour.

My guiding motto is inspired by the Japanese saying “Warau kado niwa fuku kitaru strongly. “Good fortune comes to those who smile” I believe that a smile opens hearts, and creates trust, and turns travel experiences into lasting memories. As a guide, my goal is not only to provide historical facts and cultural explanations but also to share the spirit of Japan through meaningful human connection.
