Until December 20! TOKYO ATLAS International Art Exhibition

International Art Exhibition TOKYO ATLAS

The highly anticipated TOKYO ATLAS International Art Exhibition is being held in Tokyo from October 10 to December 20, 2026.

Set in Tokyo's waterfront areas—including Odaiba, Aomi, and Tennozu—the event features works by globally acclaimed artists from Japan and abroad, such as Yayoi Kusama and Leiko Ikemura.

A diverse array of locations, including parks, seaside areas, office buildings, and normally inaccessible underground parking lots, will transform into art spaces.

Most of the exhibitions can be enjoyed free of charge, making it an appealing way to casually experience contemporary art while sightseeing in Tokyo. Some programs require a fee or entry time slot reservation.

Below, we introduce the highlighted works and venues to enjoy in each area.

Aomi Area: A Giant Balloon Artwork by Yayoi Kusama Makes Its Debut

One of the exhibitions drawing particular attention at this event is Yayoi Kusama's large-scale balloon artwork appearing in the Aomi area.

In the Telecom Center Building's atrium, Yayoi Kusama's "Yayoi-chan" and "Bouquet of Love I Saw in the Universe" (unveiled in Japan for the first time) are on display. This marks the world's first time these two works are presented side by side in the same venue.

The works are installed in a massive open-ceiling atrium, allowing visitors to view them from different heights and angles while moving across the floors. Experience Yayoi Kusama's colorful, fantastical world throughout the entire architectural space.

At the nearby Aomi Minami Terminal Park, the performance piece La Bouteille by French artist Abraham Poincheval will unfold. It is a work in which the artist lives inside a giant bottle, questioning the relationship between privacy and public space.

Beneath Aomi Minami Terminal Park lies an underground space spanning 197.5 meters in total length. An underground parking lot that is currently not open to the public will be made accessible as a special exhibition venue exclusively during the event.

Please note that admission to the underground parking lot exhibition requires a timed entry reservation. If you wish to view it, please make a reservation in advance through the official website.

Odaiba Area: Giant Floating Sculptures and Historical Parks

The main venues in the Daiba area are Daiba Park and Odaiba Marine Park.

Leiko Ikemura Moonrabbit Landing 2026

On the waters of Odaiba Marine Park, a giant sculpture approximately 6 meters tall by Leiko Ikemura, Moonrabbit Landing, will make its debut.

Enjoy an artistic landscape exclusive to the event duration, blending seamlessly with the sea, sky, and Tokyo's cityscape.

Daiba Park is the site of a battery (fortification) built in the late Edo period to prepare for the arrival of foreign ships. Within this park, where historical traces co-exist with nature to this day, works such as Yayoi Kusama's "Narcissus Garden," Zhao Yao's "Something in the Air," and Kenta Ishige's sound installation will be exhibited.

It is an area where you can feel the relationship between history, nature, and contemporary art within an open-air environment distinct from an art museum.

Tennozu Area: An Art Stroll Along the Canals

Along with Odaiba and Aomi, Tennozu—which has gained attention in recent years as an art district—is also a major area for this exhibition.

Exhibition space at Isle Shinagawa

One of the venues, "Isle Shinagawa," is a facility that was formerly used as a waste collection facility.

Today, developed alongside surrounding waterfront plazas and promenades, it serves as a cultural and artistic exchange hub that retains traces of its past.

Keita Mori Bug report 2024

At Isle Shinagawa, video installations by video artist Yuriko Sasaoka and installation works by Keita Mori will be on display. Rui Mizuki and South Korean contemporary artist Kimsooja are also participating.

WHAT MUSEUM Exterior

At the nearby WHAT MUSEUM, a TOKYO ATLAS-related exhibition titled "Coordinates: Where Tokyo-Supported Artists Stand Today" will be held free of charge.

This exhibition showcases artists and curators who have been supported by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, featuring works by up-and-coming artists including Sarah Yu-Wen Chen and Chen Hsi-Ku.

Takayoshi Ohara Suspensions 2026
