Those looking for a hospital should check if the facility is certified by the Japan Medical Service Accreditation for International Patients (JMIP).

This accreditation system certifies hospitals that can accept and assist patients of various nationalities.

To meet the criterion, a facility needs to offer multilingual consultations and admit international patients. Hospitals that add prayer rooms for religious purposes are also considerations during the certification process.

The following are 16 JMIP-certified hospitals in Tokyo. While they are all large facilities, most of them require patients to have a letter of referral from other clinics. A medical consultation without a referral may be an additional 3,000 to 5,000 yen to the first-time visitation fee.
