[Himeji City] Six Himeji Castle seals are on sale at once to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the registration as a World Heritage Site!

A newly designed castle stamp that will be sold from December 11, 2023 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the World Heritage registration. The sale period is until the end of March 2024. 300 yen each.

For the design of the castle seal, we asked Naoyasu Matsudaira, the head of the Yuki Matsudaira family (35th generation of the Yuki family, 17th generation of the Matsudaira family), to write the characters for Himeji Castle. The family crest is an extract of the left three tomoe of the Yuki family and the 57 paulownia crests that were actually used on tiles when the lord of Himeji Castle. The design that can be seen on both sides is based on the ``Mitegi no Yari,'' one of the famous spears known as ``Tenka Sanyari,'' which has been passed down from generation to generation in the Yuki clan since the Muromachi period, and was inherited by the Yuki Matsudaira family, who inherited the name. It is said that it was used as a horse seal for the daimyo procession during the transfer of Sankin from Himeji Castle to Edo Castle.

In the center are the words "Kokutaka Himeji Castle" written in large letters. It is extracted from the letters on the wooden signboard hanging on the mirror pillar of the Hishi-no-mon gate. It's hard to see in the photo of the Himeji Castle Seal, but depending on the lighting, the design stands out on the top left and bottom right.

In the lower right corner is the design of the high stone wall on the west side of Nunomon, which was built by Terumasa Ikeda when he built Himeji Castle. It is called a ``fan slope'' because it curves from bottom to top.

I actually tried using it and it has a gentle and refreshing scent. It uses plenty of natural cherry leaf oil extracted from Himeji Castle's cherry blossoms.

The company that manufactures it is Seijudo, a long-established store founded in 1849 (Kaei 2) located in Kamikawa-cho, Kanzaki-gun, north of Himeji City. It is a popular item not only during the cherry blossom season, and some tourists come from overseas to buy it.
