Don’t Miss Out! MATCHA’s Recommended Shops
Many locally-based stores are found in AEON MALL KYOTO. The restaurants and shops where you can try Kyoto’s local foods are our special recommendation.
Market Garden KOHYO: A Food Paradise at the Supermarket
Many fruits and vegetables produced in Kyoto are available at Market Garden KOHYO, a large supermarket on the Sakura Building first floor. This is an incredibly charming place for overseas visitors hoping to try foods unique to the area.
In particular, fruits—like packs of sliced fruit or fruit sandwiches—are purchased by many visitors who bring them back to their hotel to enjoy. Since you cannot bring fruit out of the country, you should enjoy them while in Japan.
The snacks and souvenir corners are also popular among overseas visitors. The souvenir counter is very convenient since they will provide tax-exemption on the spot.
Those in need of household utensils such as kitchen knives can look here or at several of the other shops in the Sakura building such as Muji and Ikea.
Enjoy Various Options at the Food Court
AEON MALL KYOTO’s restaurants and its food court are located on the first and fourth floor of the Sakura Building. There are a total of 38 shops, and the food court alone can seat up to 650 people.
The food court exudes an atmosphere that is very much like Kyoto- Japanese-style design elements can be found throughout the interiors of the food court with warm wooden structures and bonsai plants placed throughout the premises.
A kids’ space is also provided for families with children. Taking into consideration that overseas visitors come to the mall, menus in multiple languages are provided at plenty of shops. If you can’t find a menu in your language, please feel free to ask a staff member.
Ni-no-na TERAO: A Restaurant Using Kyoto Grown Vegetables
Ni-no-na TERAO is also located on the fourth floor. The restaurant offers items made mainly with vegetables grown in Tamba, Kyoto. Lunch costs 1,730 yen (tax included) per person with a 90-minute limit on dining time.
The meal itself is buffet style. There are as many as 60 different menu items available, including Japanese and Western-style cuisines.
What we especially recommend is the side dishes corner, offering meals made with ingredients produced in Kyoto. Being able to enjoy a diverse menu to this extent at an affordable price is truly a steal.
The restaurant seats 102 people and is spacious, so even large groups can eat here without any issues.
