Tanabata Sky Lantern Festival 2024: See a Sky of Lights This Summer!
The Tanabata Sky Lantern Festival 2024 offers participants the chance to watch in awe as over a thousand brightly glowing lanterns float in the sky. The festival will be held at venues in Kyoto, Aichi, and Fukuoka this July and August.
The much anticipated Tanabata Sky Lantern Festival will be held in the summer of 2024 at three venues in Kyoto, Aichi (near Nagoya), and Fukuoka. The event will feature the release of over a thousand stunning, glowing orange sky lanterns.
The Sky Lantern Festival - A Hauntingly Beautiful Scene of Floating Lights
Drawing inspiration from other floating lantern celebrations, the first Sky Lantern Festival was held in Japan in 2017 as an exciting way to celebrate the colorful Tanabata Festival, a popular summer event also known as the Star Festival. Since then, many visitors have been mesmerized by the magical sight of countless floating orange lanterns lighting up the summer night.
The events in Aichi and Fukuoka will take place indoors, allowing visitors to enjoy the lanterns regardless of weather conditions. The Kyoto event will be held outside, where spectators will be dazzled by the floating lanterns in a large open space.
The events will be full-scale summer festivals and will include fairs offering food as well as live performances.
