The Sky Lantern Festival - A Hauntingly Beautiful Scene of Floating Lights

Tanabata Sky Lantern Festival 2022; See a Sky of Lights This Summer

Drawing inspiration from other floating lantern celebrations, the first Sky Lantern Festival was held in Japan in 2017 as an exciting way to celebrate the colorful Tanabata Festival, also known as the Star Festival. Since then, many visitors have been mesmerized by the magical sight of countless floating orange lanterns lighting up the summer night.

The events in Tokyo, Kobe, and Fukuoaka will take place indoors, allowing visitors to enjoy the lanterns regardless of weather conditions. The Kyoto event will be held outside, where spectators will be dazzled by the floating lanterns in a large open space.

The events will be full-scale summer festivals and will include fairs offering food as well as live performances.
