kakejiku(hanging scroll)
"Bijutsu no Mori" always has about 500 hanging scrolls in stock. Most of the hanging scrolls are made in-house, but we also have original Hanging Scrolls from Bijutsu no Mori that you won't find at other stores, as well as hanging scrolls that have been refurbished by remaking precious works that have been around 100 years old. There are many spectacular works on display that can only be seen elsewhere. The exhibits are changed depending on the season, so you can discover something new every time you visit. In addition, the staff will demonstrate how to hang and store a hanging scroll with explanations, so even those who have never touched a hanging scroll can feel at ease.
There are various types of hanging scrolls, including those that are hung on a daily basis, those that are hung according to the season, and those that are hung for events such as auspicious or Buddhist services, or for guests. Many people think that hanging scrolls should only be hung in the alcove of a Japanese-style room, but the history of hanging scrolls is much older than the tokonoma, and in recent years more and more people are displaying them in entryways and living rooms. It has become a hidden best-selling product. Additionally, hanging scrolls themselves are considered lucky charms, and since ancient times many people have decorated them with wishes for happiness. At ``Bijutsu no Mori,'' we do not simply introduce works of art, but we also want to convey to our customers the techniques and thoughts that have been cultivated over Japan's long history that are hidden within the hanging scrolls!
shikishi
Shikishi refers to a canvas-like material for drawing paintings and calligraphy that has been used in Japan since the Heian period. Nowadays, it is produced by pasting washi paper onto a mount of fixed dimensions (width 24 cm x height 27 cm ). Because they are a fixed size, they are easy to use and display, and there are many picture frames and hanging scrolls (shikishifuku) for displaying shikishi. We also have Sunshoan, which is 1/4 the size of regular shikishi, and long, thin shikishi called Tanzaku.
At "Bijutsu no Mori", we always have over 1,000 items in stock, including not only plain shikishi with nothing drawn on it, but also hand-painted shikishi, reproduced shikishi, and more. Even though they are hand-painted, they are cheaper than hanging scrolls, and are popular as souvenirs from Japan, even among visitors from overseas.
Battle of Sekigahara folding screen
On the border between Gifu and Shiga prefectures, there is a break in the mountain range that separates east and west, a place called ``Sekigahara.'' It has become a key point for transportation, and several great wars that have shaped Japanese history since ancient times were fought here. . The biggest battle among them was the Battle of Sekigahara, which took place in 1600 AD at the end of the Sengoku period and divided the country into two. The original battle map was created during the Edo period, but it is an epoch-making work that fully incorporates various episodes that are said to have happened during this battle, which was decided in just half a day.
The owner of our shop saw the original work, which is now damaged and has some missing parts, and decided to create the definitive modern version of the Battle of Sekigahara! We submitted an application to Sekigahara Town, obtained images of the work, commissioned a designer, and created the work using computer graphics over a period of six months. The work is now on display at the "Bijutsu no Mori".
We have a wide range of goods designed with battle maps, from giant folding screens that are 180cm tall and have almost the same dimensions as the original battle maps, to mini folding screens, wall hanging tapestries, and clear files. All works come with a commentary booklet (written in Japanese) for the 113 military commanders depicted in the battle map.
character hanging scroll
It's been about 10 years since I started making character hanging scrolls, hoping to get even a little bit of interest among young people who don't have the opportunity to touch hanging scrolls. During that time, there have been collaborations with Tezuka Productions such as "Astro Boy," "Phoenix," and "Black Jack," collaborations with Tsuburaya Productions such as "Ultra Seven," collaborations with Toei Productions such as "Godzilla," and we have created various hanging scrolls such as ``Cutie Honey'' and ``Tokyo Revengers''.
At "Bijutsu no Mori", we only display character hanging scrolls that are in stock, including character works whose sales period has passed. All works are officially licensed limited edition items with serial numbers written on the paulownia box. You might be able to come across a valuable piece that is now available at a premium price! ?
hemp tapestry
The linen tapestry is a work of Kyoto Rakushian. Each piece is hand-dyed, so it is very attractive as a decoration that adds color to your wall. We will decorate not only the entrance and living room, but also the hallway and stairs to our heart's content. we enjoy changing the space by changing the decorations every season. Envy of such people spread to their neighbors and relatives, and it has become a trend in homes around here.
At "Bijutsu no Mori", linen tapestries are displayed according to the season. We also display new works as soon as possible, so you're sure to find something new every time you visit! !
Hina dolls, May dolls
"Bijutsu no Mori" holds a special Hina doll selection event from mid-November to March 3rd and a special May doll selection event from early March to May 5th. We will be exhibiting festival dolls ordered from various production areas. At our store, we view festival dolls as ``works of art that you will hold in your hands for the first time in your life,'' so we display festival dolls that are appropriate for an art specialty store.
Even outside of the periods listed above, we display authentic seasonal festival dolls, even though they are compact and can be displayed with a width of about 20 to 30 cm. The background is not a folding screen, but a hanging scroll made originally by our store that is decorated with real gold leaf stamping and paintings, and the pedestal is also made of rare heathered wood and lacquered wood that were originally purchased from wood artists and lacquerware manufacturers. We are exhibiting masterpieces made with great care.

The ``Bijutsu no Mori'' exhibits a variety of framed works such as Western paintings, Japanese paintings, prints, and poster paintings. In addition to exhibits, we always have about 400 pieces in stock, so customers can find pieces that fit their budget and dimensions.

Hanging scrolls have a traditional formality and texture when you look at them, and when you put them away they can be rolled up into a compact size to protect and preserve the work.Furthermore, they are lighter than picture frames and are less susceptible to earthquake disasters. there is. In order to maintain and develop this characteristic, there are various traditional techniques that have been honed and nurtured over Japan's long history. We would be happy if you could visit our mounting factory and discover at least one of the wonders of traditional Japanese techniques! !
``Bijutsu no Mori'' is a retail store operated by ``Kaitakudo Art,'' which has been making hanging scrolls for over 50 years in Gifu Prefecture, Japan's largest producer of hanging scrolls. The southwestern part of Gifu Prefecture is rich in soft water resources that are essential for making hanging scrolls, and nearby there is a production area for Mino washi paper and Kakamigahara picture silk, and the washi and bamboo crafts (lanterns, Japanese umbrellas, fans) that flourished near Gifu City. Because there were many artists who painted on Japanese paper and silk, it became a major production center for hanging scrolls. In recent years, the demand for hanging scrolls has decreased due to changes in the housing situation, and the number of painters who paint hanging scrolls and mounters who tailor them has decreased. Hanging scrolls have a traditional formality and texture when you look at them, and when you put them away, they can be rolled up into a compact size to protect and preserve the work.In addition, they are lighter and less susceptible to earthquake disasters than picture frames, and they have many wonderful features. there is. In addition, there are many unique techniques for creating traditional hanging scroll paintings and silk paintings that can produce beautiful colors and styles without the need for thick coatings compared to oil paintings and recent Japanese paintings. We have added functions that allow paintings to be rolled or folded. It is because of the various techniques that have been cultivated over such a long history that valuable works of calligraphy and painting from throughout Japan's history can still be seen in beautiful condition. We want to preserve this technique for the future, so we actively train young craftsmen and artists, and we also create animations to get young people and people from overseas interested in hanging scrolls. We are collaborating with characters from games and fashion designers to create works that have never been seen before. ``Bijutsu no Mori'' always has over 500 hanging scrolls in stock, ranging from new works to valuable pieces that are over 100 years old. In addition to hanging scrolls, ``Bijutsu no Mori'' also stocks traditional festival dolls, woodwork, copperware, ironware, ceramic works, linen tapestries, and other crafts. We also hold art classes such as painting and pottery, so you are free to tour when classes are held. If you would like to try this experience, please contact us in advance as a reservation is required.
