Who is Yokoyama Taikan (1868-1958)?

He supported the philosophy of Tenshin Okakura, who encouraged the protection and new expression of Japanese cultural assets and works of art, and participated in the founding of the Japan Art Institute in 1898. He studied Western painting techniques and attempted a new expression of Japanese painting called "Mouroutai.''

Exhibited works

Among the works held by the Adachi Museum of Art in Yasugishi City, Shimane Prefecture, which is famous for its Yokoyama Taikan Collection, are his early masterpiece "Mugo,'' which depicts the state of enlightenment in Zen as a mindless child, and the hazy masterpiece "Hikifune.'' In addition to the many paintings of Mt. Fuji that he continued to draw throughout his life, you can also enjoy 50 carefully selected works, including the gorgeous masterpiece "Autumn Leaves,'' which uses platinum to create the splash of ripples.
