Tokyo Flower Carpet 2026: Ukiyoe Pokémon Art and Flowers
Tokyo Flower Carpet 2026 brings Marunouchi to life April 17–19 with giant petal carpets, an Ukiyo‑e Pokémon centerpiece, inclusive art and dazzling night shows.
Tokyo’s Marunouchi district will be transformed into a vibrant floral masterpiece from April 17–19, 2026. TOKYO FLOWER CARPET returns to Gyoko-dori, marking the 25th year of Japan’s contemporary floral-art movement and the 30th anniversary of Pokémon.
The 2026 event carries significant cultural weight, with Her Imperial Highness Princess Nobuko assuming the role of Honorary President. Under the general supervision of floral artist Yasuhiko Fujikawa, the festival focuses on Circular Art, repurposing over 30,000 flowers and 500 orchid pots into massive petal-based installations that celebrate inclusion and sustainability.
Daytime displays become night stages: original kabuki and bugaku (traditional court dance/martial performance) pieces will use the flower carpets as performance platforms, while the used blooms are recycled into flower drawing paper to support art education at special‑needs schools, completing a circle from flower to paper and back again.

Six community pieces, five from special‑needs school students and one co‑created with visually impaired participants, are combined into a sweeping inclusive carpet that symbolizes social harmony.
Circular Art and Noto Reconstruction

Flowers used in the display are recycled into paper for arts education, and some works incorporate wood chips reclaimed from the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake as a symbol of regeneration.
Night Performances on the Flowers

An original kabuki piece by Nakamura Hashigo (Apr 17, 19:00) and a bugaku finale by Genshiro Minamoto (Apr 19, 16:30) will be staged directly on the floral carpets, creating a rare fusion of visual and performing arts.
