Okayama City offers a rare service nationwide: the first floor of Okayama Castle's main tower can be rented exclusively for individuals and groups at night. Anyone can rent it and use it however they like, for events, celebrations, company meetings, group get-togethers, and more (detailed conditions apply). With the exception of the special exhibition room on the second floor, visitors can freely explore the entire building, from the basement to the Mogami sixth floor. You can even hold a party in the plaza in front of the main tower, with the illuminated tower as a backdrop. Sounds fun!

Wedding at the castle tower

The first wedding ceremony was held inside Okayama Castle's main tower since its renovation. The Okayama Sengoku Warlords also came to celebrate, so let's take a look at what happened. The couple who held their ceremony inside the main tower are big castle lovers, and had always dreamed of holding their wedding in a castle. When we asked them about their experience, they replied, "It was truly like a dream to be able to hold our wedding in our beloved castle. It's a memory that will last a lifetime."

When we spoke to the guests, they said, "At first we were surprised to hear that there was a wedding in a castle, but once we got there we had a lot of fun, as it was a very original and unconventional wedding that only a castle can offer. Plus, we had the entire Okayama Castle tower to ourselves, so it felt special because we were the only ones inside, which was great."

This castle was built by Ukita Hideie, a vassal of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and one of the Five Elders of Toyotomi. The unusual scalene pentagonal, three-story, six-storey castle tower has a dignified appearance, and its black clapboard exterior has earned it the nickname "Ujo Ujo (Crow Castle)." From the Mogami, you can look down on the Asahikawa, and enjoy a 360-degree view of Okayama Korakuen Garden and the city. The original castle tower was destroyed in an air raid in 1945 (Showa 20), but has now been rebuilt, with the lord's room and other areas restored. On the first floor, there is a Bizen Pottery workshop where you can try your hand at clay twisting.
