The bride and groom's thoughts and what the groom wanted to do

This time, we will introduce a couple who had their wedding photos taken in Shirakawa-go in early February. I remember that the bride contacted us a month before the shoot, and we quickly made preparations.

They were an international couple, the groom was from Taiwan and the bride was Japanese. They didn't have plans for a wedding, but they wanted to have some kind of tangible memorial to commemorate their marriage, so they decided to take wedding photos.

Shirakawa-go is a memorable place for the couple as they went on a date. To fulfill the groom's wish to have their photos taken in the snow, the bride was looking for a place to take photos in Shirakawa-go in winter and found Mariecouture.

It was our first time to shoot in Shirakawa-go in winter, but in order to make their dream come true, we visited Shirakawa-go many times, did a lot of research, and made thorough preparations. The photographer we worked with had lived in Shirakawa-go for two years, so we were able to take lots of wonderful photos.

On the day of the photo shoot, they took photos with their family and spent a celebratory moment in Shirakawa-go.

Now, let's take a look at the actual wedding photos. The bride wore two different kimonos for the wedding ceremony. The first was a "Shiromuku" (white wedding kimono) and the second was a "Irouchikake" (colored kimono). The groom wore a traditional "Montsuki Hakama" (crested hakama).

The sky was clear and blue that day, and the sunlight reflected off the snow, making the whole of Shirakawa-go sparkle.

Things to keep in mind when taking photos in Shirakawa-go in winter

We were blessed with good weather for this shoot, and the snow sparkled in the sunlight, making for some wonderful wedding photos. However, Shirakawa-go is a heavy snow area. Depending on the snow accumulation and how much snow falls, it can be dangerous. Below are some points to keep in mind when taking photos in Shirakawa-go in winter.

1. Depending on the snow conditions and how much snow is falling, it may be difficult to take photos on some days, so prepare an alternative.

2. It is difficult to walk along the wide snowy streets of Shirakawa-go and take photos in various locations.

3. When walking on snowy roads in a kimono, you need someone to accompany you and support you so you don’t fall.

At Mariecouture, we can help you with your photography by addressing all of the above points.

What I learned from shooting in Shirakawa-go in winter

The bride and groom who used our wedding photography service commented, "We thought of wedding photos as a substitute for our wedding ceremony, but it turned out to be an even more wonderful day than our wedding! We're really glad we asked Mariecouture to do it!"

What I learned from taking photos in Shirakawa-go in winter is that you can take some beautiful photos, so it's highly recommended for couples who want to take photos with the snowy scenery as a backdrop. However, because the shooting environment is harsh, it can be difficult to make this happen unless you ask a shop that is familiar with Shirakawa-go in winter .
