Tsuruga Castle Park is a park developed on the site of Tsuruga Castle (Wakamatsu Castle) located in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture. Tsuruga Castle was built in the 15th century and has historically been known as an impregnable fortress that withstood the fierce assaults of the new government forces during the Boshin War.
The castle was dismantled after the Meiji Restoration but was reconstructed in 1965. In 2011, the castle was restored to its original appearance with red tiles. The red-tiled keep is rare in Japan and is currently open to the public as a museum.
The vast castle grounds have become a place of relaxation for the citizens, bustling with many visitors as a cherry blossom spot in spring.

The cherry blossoms at Tsuruga Castle Park typically bloom from early April to early May. It is expected that the blooming will start around early April 2025, and reach full bloom by mid-April. This allows for a relatively long enjoyment of hanami (flower viewing) until early May.
The park features approximately 1,000 cherry trees, primarily of the Somei Yoshino variety, which bloom in soft pink, surrounding the castle's keep, creating a highly photogenic and beautiful landscape.
The striking contrast between the pure white castle walls of Tsuruga and the pink cherry blossoms provides a breathtaking view, attracting many photographers and tourists.
Tsuruga Castle Park has been selected among the "100 Famous Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan" and is known as one of the top cherry blossom locations in the Tohoku region.
Additionally, late-blooming yaezakura (double-flowered cherry blossoms) are also planted, allowing for a longer cherry blossom viewing period and the opportunity to enjoy different atmospheres by visiting at varying times.
After full bloom, the sight of cherry blossom petals ("sakura fubuki" in Japanese) and flower petals floating on the moat, known as "hanaikada" in Japanese, adds to the park's charm.

The illuminations light up the castle keep and cherry trees from sunset until around 9 PM, allowing visitors to enjoy the beauty of the cherry blossoms at night.
This illumination event, known as the "Sparkling Night Cherry Blossom Party," is one of the largest in eastern Japan and attracts many tourists. The reflection of the cherry blossoms on the surface of the moat is also beautiful, making it a popular spot for photography enthusiasts.
Additionally, during the cherry blossom season, various events are held as part of the Tsuruga Castle Cherry Blossom Festival. Stalls featuring local specialty foods and sweets line the area throughout the festival.
